About the Meridian Fire Department

The Meridian Fire Department was formed in 1908. At that time the fire department consisted of volunteers. On September 28, 1951 the Meridian Rural Fire Protection District was appointed. The City of Meridian and the Rural District decided to combine forces and house their equipment in one station in the center of the district which was located at the corner of Broadway and Meridian Road. In 1977 the first fulltime employee was hired.

The Meridian Fire Department has experienced many changes since its founding. We currently have 5 Fire Stations. Fire Station 1 is located at 540 E. Franklin, Fire Station 2 is located at 2401 N. Ten Mile, Fire Station 3 is located at 3545 N. Locust Grove, Fire Station 4 is located at 2515 S. Eagle Road and Fire Station 5 is located at 6001 N. Linder Rd.

The Meridian Fire Department employs 62 staff members which include 54 fulltime firefighters and 8 administrative staff members.  We also have a volunteer staff of 15 part-time on-call firefighters who provide additional support in case of an emergency.

The Meridian Fire Department responds to emergency calls in a 54 square mile jurisdiction that stretches from the south channel of the Boise River to the north, Lake Hazel to the south, Cloverdale Road to the east and McDermott Road to the west.  We serve a population of approximately 77,000 people.

In 2008 our firefighters responded to 4243 calls for service.
